Our Leadership staff

  • Dr. Tinney V Parrish - Pastor

Dr. Tinney Parrish has served as our Pastor since 2009. With over 25 years of pastoral experience, he pastored churches in Maryland and North Carolina before moving here to Norfolk. Pastor Tinney earned a B.A. and M.A. in History from the University of Mayland, Baltimore County and his M. Div. and D. Min. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.

Traveling, reading, golf and good coffee are among his favorite pastimes. He’s a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens. During spare time you can usually find him playing a round of golf, walking or reading in one of our many lovely local parks, or spending the day at the beach enjoying the salt air and the sound of the waves.

Pastor Tinney and his wife Michelle were high school sweethearts and have been married forever (well, at least since 1979). They have two married children, Amy and Andrew and three grandchildren, Len, Stephen and Penny. The Parrish Family has fallen in love with our beautiful Ghent community and reside just a few blocks from our church.

  • Ethan Van Bruggen -Children's and Youth Leader

Ethan VanBruggen grew up in a Christian family that was highly involved in volunteer youth ministry in the factory and farming areas of southwest Michigan. He came to a saving knowledge of Christ and accepted forgiveness for his sins at a very young age, and was able to be involved in many mission trips and activities, including assisting in his parents full time ministry when they became missionaries.

After graduating from Factoryville Christian School, Ethan began his ministry training at Word of Life Bible Institute, in Schroon Lake, NY. There he completed the full two years of study and participated in musical, stage production, youth, and camping ministries. He then continued his education at Appalachian Bible College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with double major in Bible/Theology and Interdisciplinary Ministries and a Music Ministries minor.

Ethan then was called as the Children’s Ministries Coordinator for Central Baptist Church and began his studies at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Biblical Studies degree in May of 2018, and continues striving toward attaining his Master of Divinity.

  • Rachael Meyer - Worship Leader

Rachael Meyer has been blessed to be a part of the Central Baptist Church family for a little over four years. Originally from a tiny town in southern Ohio, she currently calls Norfolk home by order of the U. S. Navy. Her husband, Caleb, proudly serves our country, and he and Rachael both are delighted that they're able to serve the church as well.

Rachael grew up attending a very small church pastored by her grandfather. Though the church was minuscule, lacking even a piano player, her love for singing was great. Her school years were full of pursuing anything and everything having to do with music: Band, choir, honor ensembles, steel band, percussion groups, musicals, hand bells, and even pep band. Through the love and encouragement of her family, Rachael's passion for music cultivated a yearning to know Christ, and to share Christ with others through music.

Credited with doubling the size of the children's ministry at Central, Rachael has a deep joy in seeing her four children growing and learning in the hands our faithful congregation. A joy that is doubled by the rich blessing of worshipping in song with dear friends every Sunday morning.
