Our mission:

serving in jesus' name

God is always working to extend His message of salvation to the ends of the earth. Graciously, He has allowed Central Baptist Church to participate with Him in this mission locally within the Ghent neighborhood, in our state, and around the world. For over 100 years Central has provided a ministry presence here in the Ghent community. We care for our neighborhood and the people who live here, and we take Jesus' command to be salt and light where we live very seriously.

With this in mind, we provide two ministries that meet very specific, basic needs in our area. Our Soup Kitchen feeds those in need of nutritious food every Monday while our Caring Center* houses families of those facing medical treatment at neighboring hospitals. Please scroll down to learn more about these areas of outreach.

Our Soup Kitchen Ministry is open every Monday from 9:30am to 11:30am where our caring volunteers serve hot, nutritious soup and bread to between 60 and 100 people each week. Our Social Hall doors (located on the Colley Avenue side of the Main Building) are open to anyone who has this need.

Those who enter our warm and inviting hall will find friendly smiles and sincere, caring attitudes from our volunteers. We recognize that times of need are incredibly stressful. Our aim is to treat our Monday guests with dignity and compassion, allowing them to feel the warm love of Jesus while they are in a safe and friendly place of rest.

Our Soup Kitchen Ministry is staffed and maintained entirely by friendly and dedicated volunteers. This ministry affords an excellent opportunity for people to volunteer to help in a very meaningful way. Helping people during times of economic difficulty is a compassionate and Christ-like act.

If you have a loving heart for people and desire to volunteer to cook, serve or donate food and/or money for this very important ministry, please let us know. You do not have to be a member of our church to be a volunteer.

The Caring Center is an incredible ministry partnership between Central Baptist Church, local area hospitals, and the City of Norfolk. Located on the third floor of our Education Building, the Center operates 365 days a year providing temporary accommodations and rest for the families of patients being treated at area hospitals. In over twenty years of operation, the Caring Center has hosted over 10,000 guests from around the world, who have found a warm, safe, affordable and loving home away from home during their time of need.

The Caring Center is staffed and maintained entirely by friendly and dedicated volunteers. This ministry offers an excellent opportunity for people to volunteer their time to help in a very meaningful way. Helping families during a time of medical crisis is a compassionate and loving act.

If you have a loving heart for people and a desire to volunteer, please let us know. You do not have to be a member of our church to volunteer your time.
